Based on a 1990 BMW R100 mono.
Black was always going to be the predominant colour for this'bobber' build as it's Robert, our client's, favourite colour. After a few discussions it was decided rather than an all black vibe, a nod to the past JPS black and gold racing bikes and cars would look great, but with a twist.
Hydrographics would be used to create a carbon fibre effect on the tank and mudguards with gold pinstriping overlaid and all covered with copious layers of clear gloss lacquer. The alloy wheels would also get coloured the same with the inlays in gold and the rims in gloss black and clearcoated.
Our paint pals at Wicked Coatings in Poole took care of the whole process and did a fantastic job.
The build brief also included big brakes, quality suspension, modern electronics and the latest Avon Trailrider dual purpose tyres. Oh yes!
With everything torn down, the motor and transmission could be refreshed and upgraded then treated to a colour change of a high temp satin black finish. The frame also got some serious attention with all unwanted brackets shaved off and a new short seat loop fabbed up instead of a traditional remote bobber style seat. Our go to upholsterer Glenn Moger did a great job of covering the new seat pan in black leather with gold ribbed stitching.
Bigger Mikuni VM carbs with Ramair filters were chosen to improve throttle response and marry perfectly with the new stainless headers and short, low slung custom stainless silencers all Ceracoated in satin black.
Out went the stock discs and calipers and in came bigger 320mm NG floating discs, four pot Brembo calipers, sintered pads and all bolted together with a superbly crafted R90X billet alloy big brake adapter kit. To get the most from the upgrade, an Accossato radial pump mastercylinder with integral reservoir and adjustable folding lever was fitted along with a matching clutch lever assembly.
A big box soon arrived from suspension experts Maxton who custom made the fully adjustable fork cartridge kits and also a gorgeous fully adjustable rear shock and it's all a huge improvement over the stock setup.
With a blank canvas for the electronics, all the old loom, lighting and switches were discarded and a full suite of Motogadget's finest electricery were all spliced together with a new custom, much smaller and lighter loom. From the super bright Koso Thunderbolt headlamp to the amazingly minuscule Tens 3 combination rear lights ( stop, tail and indicators) and controlled by the bluetooth enabled M Unit Blue it all works seamlessly together.
When Robert isn't hooning around the lovely Dorset countryside on "Dark Matter" he rests it in his personal mancave situated deep within the bowels of his company's industrial unit which is where we did the photoshoot. I'm seriously jealous! Oh, and in case you were wondering what'Bomb' is relevant to in the background of some of the shots, it's the name of his company, Bomb Cosmetics.
