Based on a '81 BMW R100CS.
As a yacht designer Mark, our client, clearly has an eye for detail and knew exactly how he wanted his street scrambler to look with quality components and a predominantly blacked out theme but with a vivid contrasting colour that was to be Deep Orange with white pinstriping for the tank.
We already had the perfect donor bike in stock so work could commence quickly and needed to be as Mark wanted to ride the bike to Goodwood with his mates for a Members Meet and that was just a few short weeks away. No pressure then!
With the bike completely stripped and frame de-tabbed of unwanted brackets, that and the swinging arm, one of our SRC scrambler subframes and various other parts were sent off for satin black powdercoating.
While they were being done, the motor was stripped for inspection and fully refreshed, upgraded and once rebuilt, that and the transmission were treated to a heat proof satin black finish and some polished edge detailing.
The carbs were fully overhauled, ceramic coated black and fitted with some less restrictive Ramair filters.
Brakes and suspension were also treated to some upgrades with EBC supplying the new floating radial drilled discs, sintered pads and along with Venhill stainless/ black hoses and upgraded Brembo master cylinder, the stopping power is much stronger. The new YSS fully adjustable shocks and refreshed forks mean the handling is more controlled and with the new Avon Trailrider dual purpose tyres not only looking the part but are surefooted too.
A full suite of contemporary electronics now adorn the bike which include Motogadget M-unit bluetooth enabled control unit, tiny LED Tens 3 combo indicators / tail /brake light, M- blaze LED bar end front indicators, Highsider LED head lamp, small lightweight but powerful Antigravity L.I. battery, a lithium Iron battery specific Regulator/ Rectifier, Acewell speedo/tacho, push button switches and all linked together with a new, much smaller custom wiring loom.
New black Renthal Fat Bar handlebars with new risers look the part and the Domino quick action throttle sharpens the response.
Brushed satin stainless headers with matching OS Pipes short silencers really sound good and add a little more power too. To complete the transformation a gorgeous custom black leather seat with white ribbed stitching was custom made by our master upholsterer Glenn Moger.
To Mark's delight the project was completed on time and he had a ball riding with his mates to Goodwood and now has the rest of the summer to look forward to.
