Hailing from the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, Andy, the owner of "Popped Cherry" wanted to transform his R80RT Mono with something more fun, able to tackle a bit of light off roading and the odd weekend camping with his mates.
So the bike was duly stripped back to the bare bones, engine re-freshed with rebuilt heads, new timing chain kit, piston rings, new lightweight, lower geared starter motor, re-freshed carbs with hi flow air filters, stainless choke pull kit and a sleek top engine cover with stainless breather vents.
Black was chosen for the engine colour with alloy detailing.
The chassis was also given a makeover with a de-tabbed blasted and powder coated frame and swinging arm, SRC lightweight Scrambler subframe and a gorgeous black leather seat with a diamond pattern stitch. Lightweight, brushed alloy mudguards were fitted to give a more period look.
Re-freshed forks, brakes, bearings and a new fully adjustable YSS rear shock kept everything running sweet along with Renthal Fat Bars and new billet alloy risers gave the riding position a more purposeful stance.
The wheels were powder coated satin black and the edges highlighted and then shod with chunky Heidenau K60 dual purpose tyres.
The electrics hadn't escaped attention, with a new bespoke wiring loom to mate up with the small Lithium Iron battery, Motogadget switches, M unit, M button, LED headlamp, tail light and micro LED indicators.
The 'icing on the cake' was the beautifully rich, pearlescent dark red paint with subtle dual black pinstripes, and in the sun light, comes alive and looks stunning.
There was one other request from Andy, the owner. He wanted a quickly detachable rack and panniers, nothing too big, but enough to carry a few things for a weekends camping.
We duly obliged and created a system using military ammo boxes, and the whole lot can be fitted and removed using just four bolts in a couple of minutes.
